09:19 pm - IRON MAIDEN!

Yes, it is time for the Monthly update!
Yesterday (July 31st) saw me and my friends attend IRON MAIDEN at the NIA in Brum... It was such a fun night out, a great gig with excellent people! Airbourne were the opening act, and for the first time ever they really disapointed me, I thought their set was awful! The sound quality was terrible, within 10 seconds of them hitting the stage the sound from the guitars were washing in and out, the Lead singer was just shouting not really singing anything, their timing seemed off and it was all distorted and sounded like someone was farting in a bath of cold water filled only just above the bum line, you know that RASPPPPPPP like noise! I used to really love the spirit of Airbourne but over the last couple of times I have seen them they just have performed that little bit worse than the previous time I saw them, then last night it was such a car crash we all walked away to get some chips!
WOW it was bloody hot for this gig, the arena was sticky and sweaty but it was actually worse up in the lobby/entrance area so it was a good thing to make it back into the arena for Iron Maiden, catching the last couple of Airbourne songs which still sounded really bad, the change over was quick for Maiden and even if it hadn't of been it would of been worth a long wait, starting with the Final Frontier, they delivered a brilliant show, with a giant Eddie walking about the stage for The Evil That Men Do, then the absolutely huge Eddie rising up from behind the stage with his evil glowing red eyes, gazing into the crowd opening and closing his jaws then giving the metal horns to the end of the song Iron Maiden! The only blip was when the guitars cut out during one song and the crowd finished up the song with Bruce egging everyone on, then he turned very west country after which made me happy :P all in all it was an amazing, I loved it!
This is from Brazil, but it gives you an idea of how HUGE Eddie is!
I did take some pictures, but they didn't come out very well so there isnt much point in uploading them, instead I will put up a song they should of included, just because it's one of my favourite songs!
Thank you to Monkey, Squirrel and Bruce, and now its time for 3 new segments from my friends...
Squirrel Suggests: The Squirrely one says "The Chips at the NIA are worth £2, If you are at the NIA and need a snack get the chips they are tasteygood!"

Monkey's Fashion Tips: This month is baby tang hair

Bruce's Dating Tips Corner: Lesson one, Grin!

Other things this month: Buxathon 2011 Check that out at the links below!

02:50 pm - When things go so right...they go wrong!

Well here it is another Month and another update.
This month I attended Sonisphere at Knebworth on the Friday for perhaps one of the biggest events the UK will see this year, The BIG Four playing together, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax. More on that in a bit. This month has been a bit of an up and down one for me, I have been so busy with various things, It has stressed me out and yesterday I realised that it had all gotten a bit too stressy and I was getting little sleep and also some sickening chest pain and that made me decide to write up about how the awesome things this month are few and far between but outweigh the bad things by alot!
So to start here is what I thought of Sonisphere!
WOW!!! This is probably the 3rd best festival I have been to for how it was organised and how the atmopshere was, it's a long way off of beating Wacken's 2009 festival, but ranks closely to High Voltage on terms of atmosphere, We got there about 3 and managed to catch the last couple of songs by Diamond Head, who for what I saw of them... Played a really good warm up, I managed to get down near the stage just under the big screen on the right hand side of the stage for Anthrax, I was thinking to myself "wow this is really going to happen isn't it", I never thought I would see the day the four biggest influential metal bands would ever play the same stage the same day! Anthrax closed off a good set and I moved back to where my friends were to spend some time for them during Megadeth, I wasn't expecting much from Megadeth... I have seen them countless times and each time they have played really well but it's always felt a big lack lustered in terms of crowd interaction, I was happily wrong this time however. Megadeth put in probably the best live performance I have ever seen them do and now I was pumped up for Slayer! When I last saw Slayer, Tom had just had surgery and I felt he struggled a bit with the vocals, It was good to see he has now recovered and they played a blinder! Again out of all the times I have seen them I felt that it was this time that they played their best! The sun was now begining to set and I once again moved into the crowd for Metallica, They would have to pull out all the stops to top if off... they delivered a set with the usual classics and newer songs, for me they will never beat the time I saw them do the whole of the Master of Puppets album live, or the time I highfived them going onto and coming off from the stage at Trent FM back in 2009, but they served up a perfect end to an awesome day! The Big Four all came together for Diamond Head's, Am I Evil and this was made even greater as they also had members of Diamond Head join them on stage for the song which was just an epic finale!
Left to Right: Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer, Metallica Pictures by Pobb!
I am so pleased I got the oppertunity to see this, and I will be forever grateful to my friend Jax... so so awesome!
But my Sonisphere experience didn't end with that! Thanks to them streaming LIVE from the main stage, I was able to watch most of the performances on Sunday... but one will stick out Slipknot's set. Now people who know me and read this blog will know that I pretty much hate Slipknot's last couple of albums and generally the whole thing they have become, I was 50/50 on watching them live, I decided to give it a shot, they deserved a chance as I used to like them! What followed was a roaring set of classic slipknot songs and none of the whiney, emo'y, whingey bullshit songs (at least only 2 of them), delivered with the raw anger and feeling I used to love about the band! I was blown away by how much I enjoyed their performance and it was a very very touching tribute at the end to Paul Gray, when they brought his slipknot costume on stage and his guitar and placed it in the middle of the stage, and the group took photos with it and then what choked me up most... Joey Jordison embraced the boiler suit in a hug and it just felt respectful and touching.
Left to Right: Some pictures taken from the Live Stream
All in all I think Sonisphere was an amazing and utter success and as I have predicted for many years, it has blown away Download in all areas, I think Download is now in serious trouble (people will never stop going to it but I think people who have sense will stop going!) For me it was amazing! almost perfect!
Thank you Sonisphere!
Next up this month for me gig wise is Iron Maiden! you won't get to see anything until next month's post but I expect it to be worth the wait!
What else has been floating my boat this month, Well Reckless Depravity was quiet but we expected that to be honest with the festivals season and also Judas Priest playing in Cardiff the same night as us. But for how quiet it was it was enjoyable and fun, even if we all were shattered I just enjoy the time with my friends and meeting new ones and flirting with ladies with great taste in music :) the next Reckless should be alot more occupied I hope, However Bloodstock will be on around the same time as us so it could be a 50/50 event :P but if you like Classic metal and Rock get your asses to Weston for one of the best nights out you can have!

Get involved check out my blog post over on Deviant Art: http://vermingti.deviantart.com/journal/
And don't forget to visit Buxy's comic website: http://buxy.thecomicseries.com/
Now time for a bit of music: something alot of people might not have heard from AC/DC
I wish I could get my hands on the Volts album its the only one I don't have :(
Lastly a bit of gaming has gone on to chill me out here and there, recently I have been playing through Portal 1 and 2 and have to say they are awesome and have really cheered me up with the dark sense of humour especially in the second one, they are both clever games and really enjoyable with a great story running through the second one. Weighted Companion Cube is now my new best buddy! really wish I had played the first one properly when it came out.

And that's it for this month.
Keep on Rocking!

08:42 am - June 2011

Well this blog is slowly becoming a montly update (almost a web magazine)!
So I have just celebrated my 28th Birthday, It was good! But moving on from that I also went to Journey, Foreigner and Styx in Brum. here is my little review of the gig...
Styx were great, I have never been a fan of them and I expected their set to be average but really it was very very good...It sounded good and got me excited for Foreigner, who were amazing! The way they were playing, they should have headlined, their stage presence and music sounded so much better than Journey! They were alright, I expected more from them based on other times I've seen them, It just seemed really lackluster, the olde songs worked except for Wheel in the Sky which just fell flat, and the new stuff I am not keen on at all! At times they were sloppy the instruments were out of time it seemed and they ended on a strage encore which also just died on its feet, all in all they were so dissapointing!
Also went to see the comedian Greg Davies, who I met briefly after the show and got him to sign the ticket, He was very very funny and I laughed when he said about Dead or Alive's You Spin Me Right Round Baby... which was the first music cassette I ever owned, My Dad gave that to me because he didn't like them, and I wasn't into the song that much, but it will always bring back a memory when i hear it... odd isnt it!
I have to say this version is so much better!
In other news Buxy now has her own website here: http://buxy.thecomicseries.com/

And now I want to share some awesome fan artwork which has been generated by the comic
Left to Right: Buxy and Dave by Typhoidxxlo, Buxy BC Rich by Skrael and Buxy also by Skrael
I am really surprised at how accepted and liked Buxy has become over the last couple of months, with the comic now well into series 2 and series 3 planned out, I hope she will continue to grow her fanbase
One last thing...
Machine Head released a new single from their new album and I wanted to say a couple of things about it. Right I love Machine Head, they are my favourite band, the new single is called Locust and it is really very very good as a metal track, but as a Machine Head song it let me down a little bit. Don't get me wrong the overal sound of the song is brilliant, excellent guitar work and drumming, but lyrically it lets me down, I can hear about 3 different older MH songs in the lyrics - Descend the Shades of Night, Unleash the Wolves and Imperium, which most people would say WOW that's an epic blend of songs Pobb, what the fuck are you on about! Well I love those songs with Descend being one of my favourite songs ever... and its not a bad thing, but its not a NEW thing! I really want MH to step up again and make another fantastic album like The Blackening or Empires, which means they need to progress to better them, or I can see the next album being very similar to them, which again probably wouldn't be a bad thing, but since 2007 the Metal world has moved on a bit and I just want MH to be pushing the boundaries of their genre like they did before! And even though The Blackening did push metal forwards, If they released something on Par with that now it would just be a great album... not an AMAZINGLY FANTASTIC one like The Blackening is (because it was the pioneer it will always be the amazingly fantastic album) I guess what I am saying is, The Blackening was released at the right time to be the album that it was considered a masterpiece, If something similar came out now it would probably not have the same impact.
But enough of me rambling on and on, If you wanna listen to it for yourselfs and make up your own mind
Right have a great month, Stay fucking Metal and ROCK on!

03:01 pm - SHITTY LIVEJOURNAL!

STUPID FUCKING LIVEJOURNAL...
I have been really put off updating this blog since the Ad's have come into effect... They are so annoying and the worst thing is they appear when you log in everytime so... I am now cutting back posting on here because of the Ad's! well done livejournal you bunch of numptys! Sorry for the lack of Updates!
Ok now that my rant is over... here is whats new!
Well I am off to Journey tonight, looking forward to this one should be awesome! Also going to see the Big Four at Sonisphere :D that will be amazing!!! I have no respect for Download this year the few decent bands they got are either not playing headline sets or swamped with a torrent of crap bands! I think I am getting grumpier in my old age but Download is just becoming more and more of a shit festival, its sad to see!
Metal Hammer Rant:
Right why Metal Hammer has gone downhill... Well it has become very much a gimmick magazine, which is giving the young readers stupid things like 3D glasses to look at the 3D issue... or holographic cover (Which I have to admit was pretty awesome) but it's losing it's content for it! I have not read a full issue of the magazine for months because it has either very repetitive articles or they seem dumbed down or in some cases just really boring! hence why i stopped my mag subscription to it. It used to have really good reviews but even they have gone off the boil and it's just sad to see the magazine slide downward like that in such a short time! I think they need to have a fresh new look at it, maybe even relaunch or something but compared to Classic Rock, Metal Hammer looks like the child you try not to talk about because its crying for attention and picking up dogshit and throwing it at you!
At least it's not Kerrang but... its getting there!
Anyway time for me to get ready...So i will leave you with this:

Have a great Month!

10:17 pm - Most Most most bogus!

Hey all
Checking in with you, Mainly because some things are bugging me...
U2 they are not the biggest rock band in the world NOT BY A FUCKING LONG SHOT so why is everyone saying they are? theres a fucking movie about them fro fucks sake... 4 simple letters and a slash prove my point over one letter and a number and those letters are as follows...
AC/DC
THEY ARE THE BIGGEST ROCK BAND, not just because I say so but because its a fact they have the second largest number of album sales ever after Michael Jackson who was considered the King of Pop... so all this bull shit about U2 just isnt justified!
And i fucking hate Bono - south park had it right he is a giant turd!
now onto something a little more positive...
Do you think this actor looks like station from Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey?
Left to Right: Station, Will Sampson (or is it the other way around?)
Will Sampson was a good actor who unfortunatley died but still he really looks like the awesome Station, and probably had an amazing Martian Butt!
Speaking of Bill and Ted, I am well excited for the 3rd film which has almost (if not completed by now) completed screenplay with Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter returning and the original writers so it should be good, hopefully!

and because I can...
YES SIR SIR DUDE SIR!

10:48 am

Hey all, Something recently has been bugging me and its not Livejournal being a peice of shit and having strange messages about dresses from strange foreign weirdos pop up on recent posts wanting you to wear womens clothing for their sexual desires... have you all noticed that we (as Rock and Metal fans) don't really have a publication which is any good anymore. I want to focus on one in particular:
The Rise and Fall of Kerrang!
Now when anyone says Kerrang in a conversation between rock and metal fans, there will always be someone laughing at it's mention... for years the magazine has been going down hill, mainly because of it's focus to stick to the most popular genres and shitting on the older bands.
Yes its not all the magazines fault, you can argue that any magazine would have to evolve with the times and cover the latest genres but when I see Kerrang, it isnt the case, it is actively pushing bands and genres which are against its original target customer, music like pop punk and pop rock, emo and hardcore, grindcore and nu-metal... all these alienate the older generation, the steady masses who have been into rock and metal for years and not as a passing phase... and there is my problem with it: Kerrang focuses on teenagers solely, it's a horrible publication aimed at kids who will buy the mag for the latest on bands like Paramore (who seem to be almost a regular feature in or around the website) and who will most likely "grow" out of the metal and rock lifestyle if they ever get into it. It's just about what they think will sell the most magazines a week
But it wasn't always the case, Kerrang was a good magazine which covered a range or metal and rock, was well presented and had some good features in, interviews, reviews and also upcoming gigs and festival news and was marketed towards true fans, things were not dumbed down and presented for angsty teenagers, it was pretty mature all the up until around the year 2000. to do a quick comparison of content and how its presented I have taken some Kerrangs covers from the past couple of decades and you can compare from the first issue in 1981 to the most current issue

Left to Right: 1981, 1991, 2001, 2011
From having so many great bands to its downfall now with bands like PANIC AT THE DISCO and SHITKNOT plastered over its cover you know that the verbal diaorhia inside will not be worth your time and money reading...We need a magazine like the old Kerrang not this new style kiddies weekly!
I have not purchased Kerrang in well over 7 years! even then it was a waste of money. I only would buy it now and again if there was something decent on the cover and that was rare and when I purchased it, I would regret it! Now I occasionally look on the website and sometimes at the magazine in a shop and there is nothing that draws me into buying this shitty worthless opionated and controlled culture mag!
FUCK KERRANG its dead!
next week I am going to rip into Metal Hammer because it's in danger of going the same way... It's a slightly different story because its a Hit and Miss magazine at the moment... but more next week.
So after that little rant: time to cool it down with another Buxy Comic.

and because Livejournal is a pile of shit at the moment... here is a video for your enjoyment.

12:04 pm - Lacking updates

Seems like ages since I last updated... well thanks to LJ sucking and being down when I wanted to update and then I re built my PC but I am back for a mothers day update :)
One thing I want to say is...
WHAT IS IT WITH COW ADVERTS AND ROCK SONGS...
has anyone else noticed that the Muller yogurt advert and the Anchor butter one both have a) cows b) rock music in them
The muller one with the cow on the beach running across it set to I Can't fight this feeling anymore by REO speedwagon. The Anchor one with a country version of Paradise City by Guns N Roses... its an odd thing to notice but does this mean cows are rockers... is this why the aliens like them so much because they are true rockers? I don't know perhaps its just my head
or maybe not...
So what have I been upto... well building a trike and looking for work is the answer to that one, I think the updates are going to be sporadic until I have finished the trike also dealing with some other things and stuff so its all hectic and rather rubbish right now...
but thats life kids...
anyway here is another 2 Buxy comics since I was unable to get anything out before.

Thoughts are with the VIctims and Families currently experiencing the horrific and terrifying effects of the earthquake in japan and the tsunami.
As well as my thoughts being with the family and friends of former Alice In Chains bassist Mike Starr... RIP Mike
Something dawned on me and I wanted to make you aware of it because its something I have been aware of for a while...have you ever noticed how kick ass some of the BBC's song choices are for certain programmes and shows, I mean there must have been a real clever person back there in the 70's and 80's and even 90's who was choosing awesome rock songs which have become timeless and image provoking... I mean the main one I pick up on is Fleetwood Mac's The Chain being used for Formula 1... I hear the notes and it sends a shiver down my spine and i imediately think of F1, thats a powerful thing to do, but recently I was watching The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy film and it used a section of The Eagles' song Journey of the Sorcerer... which is a brilliant song and I did some research and having never seen the TV series the BBC aired in the early 80's I was surprised to hear that the theme music they had for the show was a shortened version of the song and it's totally kickass! But because it's me and then I start thinking and overthinking things my memory started to pull up other shows I used to watch in the 90s which had awesome music and one that sprang to mind was the original Top Gear music (when the show was good back in the early-mid 90's... don't get me started on it now because its a SHIT program now if you are into cars properly like me and I hate watching it), which was The Allman Brothers Band's extremely chilled and cool song Jessica! hearing this brings images of cars and the old show back into my head!
But there is one that everyone should recognize almost immediately when it kicks in... If you are old like me you will remember Top of the Pops (and also Top of the Pops 2) sitting down and watching the chart in the late 80's and early 90's the music used was of course the awesome and cool Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love, especially during the chart countdowns...It's pure brilliance, whoever was choosing these songs for the shows deserves a medal!
It's something that is kind of overlooked now-a-days at the BBC, although they did the best thing ever when they got the rights to show Formula 1 again by bringing back The Chain, I nearly welled up and cried like a little boy when I heard it again, and it's for moments like that in life...I LIVE FOR MUSIC!
I SALUTE YOU MR MUSIC MAN AT THE BBC!

04:13 pm - Sick Bubblegum!

So a few things I need to say this week: One is close to my heart... the others well one is a review and a festival update... but lets start off with a comic :)

Right non related metal rant/opinion:
Blade Runner... One of my all time favourite films...Dark, Gritty and really an intelligent and beautiful film in many respects...and it looks set to get the hollywood treatment in the form of a sequel or prequel thanks to Bud Yorkin and some other company who have made sub standard films. Now I am not totally against revisiting the world of Blade Runner, In fact i would love to see more of it but I think its a bad move that they are looking to do a prequel/sequel... this almost certainly means using the reconisable characters from the film and then destroying everything we know and love about them. You see Blade Runner is a perfectly self contained story which takes place in this massive universe and it doesnt need any form of sequel or prequel to explain anything to us because there is nothing to explain, I think if they try to answer questions no one asked we will get a film like the Phantom Menace which will be so fractional and disorganized, everyone will hate it. Then you got to look at the other big factor in this... Hollywood... can you really see another sci-fi film anything like the original made today in the current climate of Action Pays the Bills thinking... no! they are a business and they have to make what they think will be the higher grossing picture... look at it this way:
Make a film which is low on action but packed with story for the fans of the original which would amount to about 20% (if lucky) of the overall audience or make a film which is full of action and explosions and try and make it seem clever but not so much so the audience can "get it" which will amount to the other 80%
The sad truth is Hollywood is ready to make a film no one really wants to see done wrong but they want to make as much profit as possible by using an established name... Can it be made without being tied into the Blade Runner universe since its going to have to be a whole new story to make it work... why does it HAVE to be associated with Blade Runner!? It's going to have to live upto a fantastic expectation when it could easily be released as something else and gain it's own reputation!
I really hope that this never sees the light of day or if it does I am totally wrong and it comes out and compliments the original picture in everyway, but I am not hopeful at all.
At least I can take away safe in the knowledge that it will not be a remake, something I can't say my other favourite film The Crow is safe from!
So... Moving on to Metalness
Devildriver's new album Beast: A review:

The album is good, Through and through... another outstanding album, bursting out with Dead to Rights, which is a great opening track and each track seems to improve on its formula, like Bring The Fight (To The Floor) another circlepit anthem and Hardened, which starts off slow and dream like then thumping into life and classic Devildriver riffs and Vocals Sharp and Precise! Similar veins are heard in Shitlist which for me is a standout on the album, Then followed by Talons Out (Teeth Sharpened) which has a strange riff structure but seems to work but maybe not as well as the previous songs. Things pound with the next song You Make Me Sick which seems aimed at getting the crowd to pit more violently and bigger than ever before! Coldblooded takes a breather, its a slower pace but just as heavy as all the previous songs, before the album runs full speed into Blur, back to a more classic Devildriver sound, reminding me alot of the first album its a trip, which rolls almost seemlessly into The Blame Game, with a stop start style to the song very much PUNCHuating it into your head, then it feels like the floor is ripped out from under you as Black Soul Choir begins, a song that should seem really out of place but again it fits into the flow, but I think is one of the weaker songs being a cover, but they make it unique, its an awesome cover and to say its weak its still good! But Devildriver then show their hand with the next track being another stabbing thudding song of pure metal, showing that they are slowly becoming one step ahead of other bands with Crowns of Creation leading into the closing Lend Myself To The Night for a strong but slightly dissapointing finish, closing out the album with the usual melodic riffing.
All in all its a great album, but not as good as the last three albums in terms of memorable songs... but still a brilliant album and a worthy purchase! It is a bit of a Beast indeed!
8/10
High Voltage:
Well festival news ahoi and High voltage gain more of my interest...have a look at some of the amazing acts lined up so far:

Well I think I might leave it there for today... been writing alot on this one so I shall leave you with something Judas Priest!

02:04 pm - Ad Blocker... ah i love you!

Hey all,
So I went to a gig and I have to thank my friends Monkey and Squirrel (yes all the cool people have nicknames)... for getting me to the gig...
Rob Zombie - the final night of the UK tour.
Wow it was awesome... Skindred who I don't like listening to on their albums were on fine form live and really warmed up the Birmingham academy well, I was really enjoying their set and it always seemed they are more geared to live crowd than recording them, just sounds so much more together and heavy live!
Once they had finished it took a little while to set up for Rob Zombie, it wasn't a huge stage show like he normally does, much more toned down in stage effects, but what it lacked in visuals it made up for in the amount of songs and how they were excuted, there wasn't a single song which you could'nt help but enjoy, even the standard living dead girl was done in a way which brought a smile to almost everyones face and probably got a few people either in trouble or a date, but hey when Rob Zombie tells you to pick up the girl next to you and put her on your shoulders...even if you dont know her most people will do it, unless you are me in which case i think picking up the 15-18 year old girls around me would get me arrested! The phantom creep joined the band on stage and the band threw an arsenal of quality songs at us, old and new! it was a gig not to be missed and I didn't miss it! very happy I didn't!
Please don't leave it so long for the next one Mr Zombie...The UK will miss you!
Photos from the gig... Poor Quality (as usual), I need a better camera!
I would put up some videos but they are so bad sound wise its not worth it... Image quality is good but the sound is so choppy its hard to enjoy it!
So as you have all been very good this week here is another Buxy!

Ah so have a good weekend all...
I will leave you with a Rob Zombie Video
